Ottawa Amiga Show Report
Here is a report on what happened during the Ottawa Amiga Show. The show
was held at the Routhier Centre in Ottawa on Saturday, November 17, 2001.
The highlight of the show was the very impressive Sharp Zaurus PDA
running the new AmigaDE and some cool Amiga games. Randall Hughes,
Vice President of Sales and Strategic Business Development of Amiga Inc.,
gave several demos of the Zaurus PDA and talked with many Amigans who
attended the show.
Technomages, an AmigaDE developer, revealed five great new PDA games
for the AmigaDE. The games were on display for everyone to play, and
most of their games are now available at the AmigaDE Shop.
Downtown Amiga, a retailer from Montreal, had a good variety of Amiga
software and hardware for sale. They had an AmigaOne tower on display
and were running OS 3.9 on a nice flat screen monitor for people to try.
Unfortunately, their shipment for the new AmigaXL emulator did not make
it on time for the show. It would have been really nice to have seen it.
JP Products My Mail, a mail order company from Toronto, had many
classic Amiga games for sale.
Cinereal Pro-Video, a retailer from Ottawa, also had a good variety
of software and hardware for sale, including Video Toaster/Flyer systems
and Matrox RT2500 non linear video system. Cinereal gave demos of those
video systems throughout the day.
Monitor Magazine, a local computer paper, was also on hand. There were
plenty of free magazines available and they took photographs of the
show as well. Expect an article on the Ottawa Amiga Show in a future
issue of Monitor.
Amiga.info, the user group who put the show together, gave away
many prizes throughout the day. There was a pinball game contest where
the highest score and lowest score of the day won a prize. Actually, an
Amigan from the US got the highest and lowest score! Every hour or so,
Amiga.info gave away Amiga merchandise and AmigaDE players, courtesy of
Amiga Inc., and games courtesy of Cinereal Pro-Video.
The Ottawa Amiga Show attracted Amigans from the US, Quebec, Montreal,
Toronto, and of course the Ottawa region. Most people seemed to have had a
really good time at the show.
Later in the evening, many Amigans got together and had supper / drinks
at the Royal Oak pub. The food was good, many jokes were told, and
everyone had a great time.
